2-1/2 hours to polish the back half of the MINI (seriously)
I got back to my MINI polishing just after the kids went to bed. It's now 12:30am and I'm calling it a night. I managed to get the rear fenders, rear bumper and tailgate completed, but I have to admit I thought I'd get a lot more done.
The scratches in the paint were quite severe in places, and I decided to move to Griot's Machine Polish 2, a more aggressive compound. In some places, I did four applications to try and eliminate the deeper of the scratches and, for the most part, it was successful.
The nastiest blemishes are now much less noticeable and finer "spider web" scratches are now completely gone. I still have to do an application of Machine Polish 3 before waxing (yep, you read that right), but already the paint looks glassy, with a deep shine and crisp reflection.
Compare these two shots taken on the tailgate. The first shows the paint after cleaning, but before any polishing:
The second shot shows it after a single application of Machine Polish 2. This is a section I actually polished twice, but my phone battery died before I could snap another shot:
I still need to do a Machine Polish 3 and apply wax, so this will only get better.
For now, though, I'm spent. Time for sleep. More tomorrow.
